Oct 26, 2017

The Uchaguzi team has received hundreds of reports that have come into the Uchaguzi platform through SMS, Twitter or the web platform, and from other social media streams.

Early analysis points to the election situation being calm and methodical. There has been huge voter turnout in Naivasha, Runyenjes (Embu), Siakago, Kajiado East, Nyeri, and Kikuyu, with long queues been seen.  Kibera has five polling stations opened, however the voting processes there have been tense. Low voter turnout has been experienced in parts of Dagoretti North constituency while in Wajir and in parts of Lamu, there are no reports of any voting taking place.

In Migori and Siaya, there is no voting taking place and voting materials are yet to be distributed to the various polling stations in these locations. In places that are likely hotspots for violence such as Kisumu, Kawangware and Karanja-Kibera, there is a heavy presence of armed security forces.

Incidences of voting disruptions have been witnessed in an area called Bangladesh in Mombasa where youth have barricaded the road. Violence has also been reported in Nairobi, as cars along Juja road are been stoned.
