Media Monitoring

Overview

This team is responsible for monitoring citizen reports via different social media streams, i.e twitter, facebook, blogs, to extrapolate information useful and relevant to this election. They will in turn create posts out of these feeds.

 This process will involve:-

  • Identifying the social media websites/feeds

  • Monitoring these feeds on an ongoing basis

  • Extracting useful and actionable information from those sources

  • Passing the actionable information to the Geolocation and Translation Team (if applicable) to be geo-located and translated before being published.

NB: The media monitoring team has a separate sign up for monitoring different media sources. This is because there are many sources to review. Ensure that you are signed up on the media monitoring sign up sheet,

  • Coordinate with the MM team lead before signing up to specific timeslots. This will make sure that all relevant sources are being monitored, and avoid duplication

  • Mainstream media sources are of secondary focus. We won’t create posts from official media sources, but it is good to know what they are reporting, as well as use them to find supporting information of citizen reports.

  • Please remember to delete your name from the schedule, in the event that you stop working before your shift is over

  • If there isn't any additional information, move on to the next item on your media stream before moving to the next step
  • If there is additional information provided, and looks like the similar post and your media stream item could both be referring to the same event reported from different angles, add it to the “Other posts related to this incident” field on the survey you assign this item to ONCE YOU CREATE A NEW POST in the steps that follow.
